Wax melting function is the best. It heats the wax to the ideal temperature where it won't burn. The smell penetrates the room and stays for some time. It's definitely better than putting a candle on a heating pad. I just didn't notice a candle smell that strong, even after a few hours when the wax in the candle jar had completely melted. I bought it to melt the remaining wax in a candle where the wick was already burnt out. Luckily I just used a plastic knife to scoop out the wax and placed it in a tray to melt. Then it definitely worked. In addition, it is very stylish. I've gotten a few compliments on how it looks so I'd say overall it's a good buy if used for melting wax rather than a full candle.
