Review on ๐Ÿ“ท Sigma 40mm f/1.4 DG HSM Fixed Prime Lens, Black (Nikon Mount) by Heather Jackson

Revainrating 5 out of 5

Exceptional quality professional prime lens

I would describe myself as an intermediate amateur photographer, not a professional. However, I only have a handful of lenses, and I find fewer lenses all the better, given the obvious limitations of lenses in terms of size, weight, and the general clumsiness of carrying a lot of lenses (like some people do in their backpacks). . In my opinion, this approach is often too impractical, especially when travelling. Against this background, I patiently searched for a good fixed focal length in the "normal" focal length range. Without distracting from other lenses or manufacturers, this Sigma 40mm Art lens is a top-of-the-line product, outperforming many lenses from Sigma itself and other well-known manufacturers in all areas: its optical quality is outstanding, it's much sharper than competitor lenses (many available online (reviews and benchmarks demonstrating its sharpness, brightness, color accuracy, etc.), its autofocus is quiet, accurate, and fast, and the build quality is top-notch, including the lens hood design. Given the superb build and optical quality, my conclusion is that Sigma is intentional wanting to use this lens for the most discerning of photographers, I suspect that's why Sigma used a slightly unconventional focal length for this lens (40mm) instead of the more usual 35, 50 or 55; everything is done to separate it from everything else Can't write anything negative but I'll click the O obvious clues. This lens is larger and heavier than comparable lenses. It's also a lot more expensive. However, as mentioned above, I don't have many lenses so this isn't a personal limitation for me, but for those with a lot of gear it can be seen as a disadvantage. Ultimately, like most options, this lens is designed for some rather than others, depending on what matters: optimal image quality (this is the main competitor) or compromise in optics for smaller size, weight and much lower price (many 35mm f1 .4 lenses available).

Pros
  • Stylish and modern design
Cons
  • Poorly thought out
