I installed this in the starter motor on my 2000 Jeep Cherokee XJ. The starter had trouble turning the engine and I found the brushes were worn when I opened it up. This product replaces all four brushes and the holder and springs for those brushes. When rebuilding I suggest you first remove the brush springs, then put in the commutator (make sure you did it right), then put the springs back in (this part is a little tricky, I used needle nose pliers) and then screw the back plate on the brush holder, then put the whole thing in place in the motor housing. The springs are too strong to connect the brushes to the commutator, they must be disconnected from the brushes first. Now my jeep starts quickly and with great force. Since the brushes are the only wear part of the starter, this product is far more economical than replacing the entire engine block. However, this requires at least a mechanical inclination.
