Gen 2 switch/dimmers now have 5 lead wires hanging out of the box instead of screw terminals. As a result, the switch and dimmer installation has become significantly longer today. Last week I had to make a box with 3 groups (all 1st gen switches) because one of them failed. Replacing it with the new 2nd gen Switch was a problem, guess what. I had to remake the whole box because of different wiring. Most of the time, if there were screw terminals, it would just turn off the old switch/dimmer (dumb or smart) and "turn on" the new one (minus the neutral wires). Although the 2nd generation switch/dimmers are slightly smaller, wire nuts must now be used and the addition of lead wires adds EXTRA material to fit in the work box. You will NOT save any space. I ended up cutting off some wires to save space. I didn't have time to comment on the performance, but I did find that they connect to Wi-Fi very quickly compared to the 1st gen switch/dimmers I have - within seconds. (!) Switch on after installation.
