4 wires, 4 nuts, worse than the old design

The old design, DW15S, had side connections and was easier to fit into the switch box. This new design has 5 flexible lines including a 'traveller' that can be cut off, but essentially that means you have to cram an extra 24" of wire, four nuts and a large switch into the box. Why not side ports like any other switch and socket!

Great for sockets

That's good. But it could be great. Unlike every other brand that lets you adjust the minimum and maximum brightness to suit your particular lamp, this one doesn't change the dimming levels as you would expect (1% is your minimum; 100). % is your maximum). If you use the My Leviton app instead, you simply can't dim the brightness past a minimum or maximum threshold. Or if you're using another service like HomeKit, any settings below the minimum or above the maximum won't do anything. a slider…

Don't waste your time

I've already spent several hours troubleshooting and after several days of trying it still doesn't work properly. The MUCH cheaper brand I've used (made by TeePee) is much more reliable. The only reason I chose Leviton is the promise of a 3-way dimmer in the collection. I've ordered enough switches and dimmers for my whole house to upgrade to Leviton so it's all in one app. It doesn't matter if virtually none of the devices can stay on my network. I even reserved IP addresses for each switch…

Pros
  • Excellent overall performance
Cons
  • High price

This switch would have been 5 stars/excellent had it kept the original physical design with screw terminals. As others have noted, this has to do with the wires needing to be secured in place, adding bulk. In my case there were other connections in my single block box and adding three more wire nuts was not possible. If this was the original design I could have just plugged the new switch into the old wires, but instead I had to disassemble everything, add larger/bulky wire nuts to accommodate…

Bring back screw terminals

Gen 2 switch/dimmers now have 5 lead wires hanging out of the box instead of screw terminals. As a result, the switch and dimmer installation has become significantly longer today. Last week I had to make a box with 3 groups (all 1st gen switches) because one of them failed. Replacing it with the new 2nd gen Switch was a problem, guess what. I had to remake the whole box because of different wiring. Most of the time, if there were screw terminals, it would just turn off the old switch/dimmer…

Terrible. Avoid at all costs!

Build quality is good. The app is easy to use and has a few useful features, but at the same time it's very basic and frankly disappointing for a device of this price range. But it would suit me if the devices were reliable. what they are not. You cannot manage them without an internet connection. There is no "local-only" mode. But more often than not, they just don't stay connected to Wi-Fi. I've tried several brands of WiFi extenders. Same results. I've tried connecting some to an Xfinity…

Needs some work, interacts with other Alexa devices

My whole house is a smart home - all lights are connected to Alexa, garage doors are connected to Alexa, etc. I want to install voice control everywhere I bought a voice dimmer Leviton to try, hoping to buy more if I like it. I like it? Well, "It's complicated." I have to say right away that the installation was pretty complicated. The voice dimmer is deeper than many Wi-Fi switches, so aisle space becomes an issue. Also, the Leviton's wires are twisted copper, but without the pre-soldering…

Used for almost every light switch in my house.

I have a version of these switches that controls almost everything in my house. I started replacing my switches with Gen1 switches a few years ago and have only recently landed on Gen2. The only switches that aren't are my bathroom exhaust fans. I've written quite a bit here, so congratulations if you made it to the end. I currently use the following switches: DW6HD (Gen1 600W dimmer) DW1KD (1000W Gen1 dimmer, but still uses pins instead of screws) DW15S (Gen1 switch) DW4SF (Gen1 4-speed fan…
