Purchased for my 2001 BMW 330Ci. Looks almost the same as its predecessor. Considering that OEM costs 4x and even the next cheapest new non-OEM costs more than double, this is a hell of a deal. At this price, it's hard to believe it's NEW and not refurbished, but I'm having a hard time caring. The point is that it came very quickly, installed relatively easily (for a BMW starter) and really works. It appears to be a quality part that looks and weighs the same as the one it replaces. It's a bit bigger than my old one but it's a 20 year old car and I just bought it so I don't know how it should sound. Unfortunately, as soon as the car started, I discovered that the spark plugs were bad (boo). I'll keep the old launcher as the main launcher, an extra core is always useful, but I'll upgrade if the launcher dies prematurely. A few tips for people who don't want to remove the gearbox on their BMW M54: 1) Remove the intake manifold. You can do it without removing it, but it's much more difficult. 2) For torx screws, a 3/8 box wrench that allows you to access them from the front is ideal. 3) Tighten the screws. Use a small copper, rubber, polycarbonate, or wooden mallet to tap the starter onto the dowel. Cover the starter with shop towels and you can squirt some silicone grease on it to make things easier. 4) Connect it after screwing it. Do not overtighten the racks.
