Review on Moen GX50C Horsepower Continuous Disposal by Justin Kedzior

Revainrating 3 out of 5

Great device, good price, very loud!

I replaced a 13 year old Badger 5 with this Moen unit. The packaging looked like it had been sold to someone before, returned and then resold to me. The box was badly dented, the power cord was not wrapped, just dangling inside the box, and the inner walls were torn and damaged, as if someone had previously pulled the unit out of the box. The device itself looked good, so I went ahead and installed it. I installed it in about 30 minutes. It was very light, allowing me to work comfortably lying on my back under the sink. All the fittings from my old unit fit this new unit almost perfectly, so that was a big plus. The biggest shortcoming of the machine is the noise level. All reviews said this is a very quiet unit. Well I don't know, maybe quieter compared to a helicopter! That thing is LOUD! At least twice as loud as the Badger I had before. This is because the motor rotates almost twice as fast as the old device. It's not an engine sound, it's a sound from the milling chamber, because everything is spinning much faster there. Both these and my old units are 1/2 horsepower so you would think they would perform about the same. However, this Moen unit appears to be much more powerful. My sink vibrates a little when we turn it on! So overall I think it's a good device and the price is great, but don't expect it to be quiet because it isn't!

Cons
