lid not super tight
love the butter dish. just don't pick it up only by the lid. too easy to not put lid on tightly. i do not use the butter dish with water, but my butter is still soft enough in the morning to spread on toast. later in the day, it is softer than just being on the counter by itself. I haven't washed it yet. I just keep adding butter. Easy to hold 2 butter quarters.
