We bought a used house about 2.5 years ago and occasionally noticed a drain fly in one of the bathrooms. The other two bathrooms were renovated as soon as we moved in, so that wasn't a problem. For two years I've poured boiling water, bleach, drain cleaner, vinegar and baking soda and nothing has stopped the flies. They were gone for several days and then we saw another. Yay! I was so disgusted that I talked my husband into pulling out the drains and siphons (Jack and Jill's bathroom has two sinks) so I could scrub every inch of it with their cleaner and an old toothbrush. I saw tiny black spots (maybe eggs) in the pipes, disgusting I know! Anyway, after a thorough cleaning of the pipes and drain flasks, we haven't seen a single fly since! Hooray! I bought this brush to keep drains clean and so far it's working great. Tip: It is best not to lock the plungers. I wanted to be able to get them out under the piston for cleaning and with this pipe brush. It's been a few months and there are still no flies, not a single one!
