Many reviews mention the use of this type of pump for small households so based on the good reviews and these comments I ordered this particular pump and recommended strainer and a storage tank for the water supply of our small house from a rainwater collection system. It worked great for low-power applications that ran every few seconds, but it was ok. I recently tried filling a bucket from the kitchen faucet and at a steady flow the pump was acting strange, changing pump speed and not turning off. I got nervous and turned off the faucet and the pump went off too. I tried again and the pump worked fine for 30 or 40 seconds and then did the same thing again. Eventually I realized that this was probably too small for normal home use, even in a small house, so I upgraded to a 1/2 HP jet pump. and a 5.5 gallon pressure tank. This larger unit with a pump and pressure tank costs about a hundred dollars more, but works much better for bringing water indoors. The Shurflo pump works great so we move it around to power an outdoor shower and garden hose.
