I had a small furnace gas leak I was trying to find. Sometimes there was a slight smell of gas in the house. I could smell it from the back of the oven but couldn't tell with my nose if it was a loose connection or a stuck valve. I originally bought a cheap PANGEA brand gas detector for $25. It had a range of 0 to 10,000ppm, but its sensitivity was terrible. I zeroed it out of the house but the only gas it detects is when I turn on the burner. This forensic detector is amazing. I reset it outside of the house. As soon as I bought it at home it registered 70ppm. It was sensitive enough that I could hold the probe over the various fittings and detect a leak in the valve going to the oven rather than the grill. It's 4 times more expensive, but it works. The ability to reset readings to zero, toggle sensitivity between high and low, and also turn off the buzzer is useful. It is small and thanks to the rubber coating it is easy to hold. I wish the display was a little brighter and I don't like that the battery compartment is held in place by a screw. It doesn't get used very often, so I don't want to keep batteries in it all the time. It is inconvenient to look for a screwdriver to open the compartment.
