It's either dust or fine fibers of the sheet material, but I'm pretty sure I inhaled about a half inch of that material when I laid these sheets on my bed after the first wash. There was also a layer of dust on the surrounding surfaces of my dresser and table. Maybe it's from my washing machine, but none of my other clothes had that much dust on them, so I don't think that's the problem. Maybe wash it twice before use. Also, the sheets are quite soft but thin, so a lot of the reviews about their sheets with holes could be because they tear so easily.
