Review on πŸ” IOGEAR 4-Port Dual View Dual-Link DVI KVMP Switch with Audio and Full Cable Set - TAA Compliant (GCS1644) by Wayne Burkett

Revainrating 5 out of 5

Great when it works right.

I've had the GCS1644 for a while and liked it, but recently I've had problems with it. Initially there were problems with dual-channel displays (flashes, strong artefacts); They were fixed by replacing the block and updating the firmware. Then I started having problems with emulated USB devices failing. If you have an issue with this KVM and replacing the device fixes it, the support team is tolerable (but very slow - expect a replacement 2-3 weeks after they receive yours). In addition, you are responsible for returning the defective device. If replacing the block persists the problem, good luck. Support folks seem fixated on denying anything could be wrong because "a lot of big-name companies are buying it!". What is this reason? It has now been 8 weeks and 2 replacements since my initial problem and each replacement they sent me (in the original, complete and sealed packaging) arrived less functional than the last. . With what I have now the front panel is completely dead, in addition to the same issues I had with the unit I sent back. How is QA going? The mind is incomprehensible. I also just got a message from IOGEAR support that only major 104 key keyboards or IOGEAR brands are supported. So much for Mac/Sun/"modifier keys" support as advertised. I think this will be my last IOGEAR product. Edit: I just repaired the dead front panel by opening up the unit and plugging the dangling/disconnected ribbon cable into the correct connector. I suspect they forgot to plug it into this replacement (refurbished) device and didn't notice. That's great QA!

Pros
  • Great selection
Cons
  • Definitely bad product
