Pros and cons of the Sony Universal Control

This is the Sony Universal Control. In theory, once programmed, you can remove the sea of remotes you have and do anything with this one. Pros: Has a remote learning capability if preset numbers don't work for your component. Has physical buttons to move channel up/down. , volume up/down and menu navigation - and they can be reprogrammed. Looks professional. Install remote features. The learning feature can be quirky, requiring you to dim the lights in the room and try using some features many times. The standard LCD contrast is barely legible, and even when optimized it's unreadable without a backlight. The characters are quite small on the screen. "Key Areas" of the LCD. Neither my Sony BluRay DVD nor my rather old Sony AV device worked with any of the factory codes. Really bad - if you wait too long to change the batteries you could lose all programming! Another recommendation - If your significant other is as tech savvy as mine, get her a very basic remote control with a big button. This will save you both a lot of disappointment.
