Review on πŸ”¨ Stanley 47-480L FatMax Xtreme Chalk Box: Ultimate Marking Precision and Durability by Chris Weber

Lemon or just junk?

I am a professional repair carpenter. I just bought two. I was able to use the first box of chalk maybe 25 times in total (over the course of 2 months) before it ended up in the bin. The transmission was difficult to engage from the start. Having never used a Fat Max chalk roller before purchasing this roller, I figured it was just the price you paid for better spinning speed. I was wrong. Things got a little easier just before the gearbox broke: then it became completely unusable. I've never taken it apart so it's either a manufacturing defect or poor design. Definitely not an "extreme" instrument. As cheap as this chalk box was, I didn't get my money's worth with it. Hope the second one has better luck.

Pros
  • Rugged cast aluminum housing
Cons
  • Security
