DURATECH 24-Piece Socket Wrench Set, 1/4", 3/8", 1/2" Drive Socket Set with 3 In 1 Ratchet Handle, 3 Extensions & 20 Sockets for Auto Repairing, METRICThe Duratec socket set comes very simply packaged in a plain brown cardboard box. Opening the box, right on top is a Duratec pamphlet showing other tools that they sell and a little card that thanks you for buying the tools. Exploring further into the box, all of the tools seem to be loose or have come loose from the socket carrier inside the box. Looking at the socket carrier, the reason most of the tools are loose seems to be that part of the socket carrier is broken, namely the part that would hold the ratchet in place and the short extension bar. Barring the holder being broken and fairly useless, the tools seem to be okay. I got the metric version because it seems to me that a lot of the nuts and bolts these days are going to metric. I will still keep standard SAE tools in my toolbox, however, because it seems to me that things made that took SAE wrenches lasted a lot longer. The sockets are chromed and have a knurling made into the side to allow some grip when you have dirty hands. The ratchet has a knurling on the side as well. This ratchet is a little different from some. I've had, the centerpiece where you snap on the socket is a multiple-size tool. On one side there is a 3/8 socket attachment. On the other side, there is a half-inch socket attachment topped by a quarter-inch attachment. So if you're using the half-inch drive to unscrew a bolt, you might have reduced depth due to that quarter-inch adapter coming out of the back end. On the other hand, having one ratchet that fits the three major sizes in sockets is not a bad idea.Oh no, not a bad socket set, everything is chromed. Well, the ratchet works smoothly (if a little noisily) but the included socket holder arrived broken. Looking at the design of the socket holder, I can't see this [the holder]lasting a long time, which is disappointing as I would have used it to hang for storage or ease in working on a project by being able to grab the whole set once. Ah, well. It would have been better for the manufacturer to include a small carrying pouch or case rather than this flimsy plastic socket holder.
