Review on Parafilm® Grafting Tape Genuine Clear by Travis Vasquez

Works wonders for restoring broken plants

I don't graft much but I once accidentally snapped off the main stem of a miniature tomato that had a lot of ripe tomatoes. It broke at the junction of the stems and most of the top of the plant and the tomatoes would have been lost. I propped it up as best I could and ordered this finishing tape which arrived very quickly. I wrapped the gap and propped it up with a stake to give it extra support. I also noticed that another long branch was bent but not broken. I wrapped the broken trunk and also splinted and wrapped the bent branch. After wrapping and supporting the stems, the plant reminded me of a Civil War veteran. Within two weeks the break and the bent branch healed and not a single tomato died. The leaves above the break are healthy and the plant is growing well. I suppose I could cut off the broken part of the plant and it would grow back, but I would lose quite a few ripe tomatoes. What I found very interesting is that the main stem of the plant can grow together if pricked properly, just like human bones. I'll definitely have that grafting tape on hand. UPDATE 0816/19: After a few weeks I removed the "bandages" and splints from the tomato branches and they have fully healed. This plant is now thriving and producing tomatoes again. UPDATE 9/24/19: I recently had another case where a large branch of one of my tomato plants was bending under the weight of the tomatoes it was supporting. By using this tape to support the branch, the branch healed and the tomatoes it contained ripened. This tape has proven to be very useful and helpful in rescuing broken branches on my tomato plants. I've been using this tape for accidental breakages on several of my houseplants for about a year and a half. At this point I wouldn't be without him. It is very interesting that the plants will heal if they are glued and sealed for a couple of weeks. This needs to be done shortly after the fracture to prevent the fracture from drying out and healing. I've used this method for both softwood and shrubs. Since the branches of some plants such as clary sage, pineapple sage, bush tomatoes, and some basil plants break easily, it's good to know that a branch can be reattached and healed without losing it. UPDATE 11/13/20: I've been using this band for almost 2 years and at this point I don't want to be without it. In addition to repairing cherry tomato branches that break under the weight of tomatoes, I've also repaired large branches of tall green sage, pineapple sage, and other plants whose branches break easily under any pressure. As mentioned above, it is important to "bandage" the branch soon after the break occurs to prevent the ends of the break from healing. To be honest, plants have always fascinated me. The fact that broken branches can be repaired and healed in much the same way as a broken bone is just amazing. I hope this review was helpful to you.
