I'm a Comcast employee. As a consumer, I might look at this with a little prejudice towards my employer. I feel like I should be up front in my rating. I can confirm that this modem is on our *approved* list of modems that work with our service. That's why I chose this modem, and also because speeds over 300MB/s require a Docsis 3.1 modem. Otherwise, a cheaper Docsis 3.0 modem would do. I bought this modem to replace my XB6 (wireless router for gigabit customers). I've always had my own Netgear router (ex8000) which supports speeds up to 1Gbps. The XB6 delivered speeds up to our advertised speeds, but my main issue was double NAT and port forwarding issues. I play in my spare time and often have trouble connecting to friends and/or multiplayer lobbies due to dual NAT routing issues. I also had to run my XB6 through an unmanaged switch as it would often fail due to poor handshaking with the WAN port on my router. Not sure if this is related to Netgear but the problem went away after using the switch between my XB6 and my router. Overall the XB6 did what I needed and delivered the speed I paid for, but I didn't need the extra features we offer our customers. Personally, I didn't need built-in WiFi or an XB6 hotspot, nor did I use any firewall features. XB6 provides home WiFi not only for consumer devices, but also for all wireless Xfinity devices such as cable boxes (Xi5, Xi6, XH, etc.). Since I don't have any Xfinity or wireless cable boxes at home, I wanted to get my own modem. If you have an Xfinity home phone, you must choose a separate phone modem so you don't lose phone service if you decide to buy your own modem. All of the above advice applies to you if you have an XB3 Wireless Gateway. I completely switched to this new modem about 2-3 weeks ago. I never lost the connection and it goes straight to my Netgear (ex8000) router with no intermediary switches. I got a new public IP address immediately when I switched to the new modem. Be sure to call 1-800-COMCAST to activate your modem. To be clear, when I call I call the same number. I don't have my own hotline. Within 15 minutes it was added to my account and started working. If you have any of the devices I mentioned earlier here, the agent cannot switch you until you return the device our XB3/XB6 requires. Now I can run all my own firewall/NAT rules without any problems. I still get the same speeds and latencies. This modem does exactly what it says on the tin and I have no problems to report. The modem itself has a Netgear GUI (192.168.100.1) - I think it's an IP. A simple Google search reveals what it is. The GUI itself doesn't need to configure anything, it just shows the public IP address and that it's connected if everything works. This rating reflects my personal opinion and not that of my employer. I use this modem for my private home connection and have not received any compensation for this review.
