My husband needed extra protection for his feet - he's a diabetic and is not to go barefoot. Didn't used to take that stuff seriously, until he had a problem that put him off work for two months. He also wore crocs to give him some cushion for taking walks up the beach. As an added protection against infection, I would turn them inside out and wipe them out with a disinfectant wipe. They can be washed in the washing machine, which is a big plus.
