I only bought this to get hair out of the sink when the plug is in place. The way my plug is attached to my sink, I can't just pull it out without crawling under the cabinet to remove the locking mechanism. The orange plastic tool works well when it works. This means that as long as it doesn't get stuck in the bottom of the cork, it will pick up that ugly mess of hair clogging the drain. However, due to the tool's serrated design, it will catch on the cork 4 times out of 5 and then fail to pull out of the drain. You then spend a frustrating few seconds manipulating the damn thing and trying to get it out without damaging it. Eventually it got so stuck I was afraid I'd have to disassemble the trap and pull it out. I'm happy to report that the tool can withstand a lot of tension without breaking apart. And in the end, my sink drains again. The plastic tool is easy to clean. One just has to overcome the dislike factor of touching the black, slimy, hairy debris on it. Maybe buy a box of rubber gloves here at Revain with this tool. If you're frugal, clean your tools. If you get pissed off quickly, just throw the item away and you have 4 more left. The claw is great for other uses. I mainly use it when I accidentally drop a screw in my car's engine bay or other small object in places I can't get my fingers in. I have not used it for plumbing purposes. Considering all the nifty gadgets for the low price you pay, this is a great deal.
