These gaskets can cut through heavily oxidized gelcoat.

. The oxidation is so bad it looks like sandpaper. I use Meguiar's 105, 110 and Flag Ship Wax. The 110 stays wet longer, but both the 105 and 110 perform about the same. These pads can run for a long time without cleaning and can withstand the high pressure needed to overcome the oxidation I'm struggling with. but they stay together. Make sure they are dry after cleaning. My bottom came off but I know it was wet and it's my fault. 1. Use StarBrite Deck Cleaner, Hydrochloric Acid (Hazardous Substances, Caution) on limescale deposits from our heavy limestone lake, then rinse thoroughly. A deck cleaner with patience and a terry towel can remove some of the oxidation, but it takes time, but it works on bad spots that are difficult to buffer. I use Bauer Harbor's $79 DA Freight Buffer. It's a beast, you can lean on that buffer and it just keeps getting punished. After you apply the yellow or orange pad, I prefer to drip 110 on the surface and then rub it into the oxidation with a small toothbrush. I know it sounds weird, but you're definitely going to put the compound in the gelcoat. Once you've done that, turn on speed 3, which is pretty quick, but land the buffer pad on the surface next to the area to make it stop spinning, then enter the lineup you're in right now Have brushed your teeth and walk slowly with two steady hands. Pressure and work over the entire area. You will do 90% of your pass with this as all this material is being rubbed into the surface and working at full material, full pressure and slow speed which I find very effective. I finally figured out that you need to push the buffer to effectively disconnect. You will be amazed at the results if you follow these steps. My gelcoat is gone, anyone else would use 3000 grit sandpaper, but that's risky. The compound seems to have a tendency to stick to oxidation so you leave a good gel coat that has been cleaned. Finally, after you start to see some sparks, wipe everything down with a microfiber cloth and then manually rub the seawax into the surface to cover all of the glossy gelcoat you just applied. Don't worry it will dry out a bit. Now set the buffer to 3 to 4 and apply moderate pressure, buff the surface and continue until you see an incredible shine. It's worth putting some pressure on it first as Marine Wax has some oxidation removal ability that will smooth out any marks left by the compound and still be able to remove some of the micro stains of oxidation. I then like to finish with very little pressure and set speed 3 to buff the finish (same yellow pad). That's great. Sorry for the long post but I'm sharing how I've been through a lot of severe (15+ years) oxidation and these PADS and Meguiars products helped me get there.

Pros
  • . Easy to read control panel.
Cons
  • . New competition has arrived.
