Polishing pads are pretty good, but they rely on Velcro to hold them to the rubber base of the disc. I used a standard variable speed polisher/grinder. I used 60% speed rather than full power. I had the velcro attached to the rubber base off in less than 2 minutes. I had to invent another method of attaching discs so I could polish a piece of marble. As I said, the polishing pads work quite well, but the rubber pad with Velcro does not at all. I've polished soft marble, can't imagine it standing up to granite.
