Definitely much more convenient than "4x4 bars, bricks, scales, pipes, tape measure and calculator". I used a jack to get the scale in position and got a reading of 310 pounds, which is about what I expected given the current load and balance of my trailer. When he jumped on the hitch he went up to almost 500 pounds and I'm 185 pounds so I think that's pretty accurate. It feels very well made. The instructions (and other reviewers) warn against lifting it by the butt (the black part), and its size and weight make it a bit awkward to handle and store. But again, still way better than the alternative and portability for changing loads on the road if you're careful with the dial and piston. The instructions describe what to do when there is air in the system (or you want to change the dial, let's change the range) and it seems simple enough, but I'm still hoping to avoid this and don't need a 1000 +lb tank soon. .
