Review on πŸ’¨ Crucial P5 1TB NVMe Internal SSD – Boost Performance at up to 3400MB/s by Elmito Yeager

Revainrating 5 out of 5

The Crucial P5 M.2 SSD is incredibly fast.

I installed a Crucial PD M.2 SSD on 2 computers. I used to boot from fast SSDs, but the speed after switching to them is amazing. They are very easy to install and go to the Crucial website - you can get free source disk cloning software. They also have M.2 control software that makes them faster and more efficient. Some websites say to set M.2 as external to clone the original - I didn't. I installed an M.2 drive in its slot, started the machines regularly, downloaded and ran the software. It sets the partitions to the size I chose (larger than the original drive in one case). He formatted the partition, cloned the software and made it bootable. With that done, I removed the original SSD to keep as a backup. I restarted the P5 M.2, downloaded the management software, tested everything and it works. Boot times aren't much better as the original SSDs I had were very fast anyway, and that's a trait of such peripherals. like a network connection. But the machines are now incredibly fast in all other M.2 P5 drive operations. The only problem is that the M.2 screws are not included. In my cases, the screws were different sizes for my 2 machines. It took me far longer to find the correct retaining screws than the rest of the installation. If you want to know if I recommend it - I say if your computer has an M.2 drive slot and you don't use it as a boot drive - YES!

Pros
  • I always liked it
Cons
  • Not as good as it promises
