I recently switched from a standard 20 gallon kit to a 75 gallon kit. In the first case, I had to get up in the morning and turn on the light and turn it off again in the evening. The on and off changed from day to day and no matter what time it was or how I tried to strap my fish in, they always crashed against the glass walls. So when I upgraded to 75 gallons (48x18x21) I decided to get two 18W/24" Hygger bulbs. One on each side instead of one long strip so I can light things up while vacuuming on the other side. I removed the long staples and placed them on the jar under full white light for most of the first day. The lights got quite hot but the jar never got above room temperature. I then attached velcro tape pads to the ends so the lights could at need take off otherwise don't slip and there won't be too much glare looking at my aquarium these lights far exceeded my expectations and are such a relief from the light and take it easy the deeper the blue gets at night it's the same everyday without you having to do anything. Also the light stayed the same even though my new 75g filter splashed water on the glass dome a few times. It seems like a week has passed en, but it's one of the few things I haven't had to worry or worry about. And it was cheaper than the store brand which I almost bought. Now for a word of caution or suggestions for taking it from best to perfect? I would probably make it an inch or two longer. Place the plug to the side and not at the ends so they can be refilled. Maybe turn off the lights for exactly 8 hours? (Full disclosure: I'm no fish expert yet.) Mine are completely off from 10:15pm to 5:30am. Most likely the controller has a launcher on top of the rest; The first (8am) isn't the very first shadow you'll see, it's about two hours into the lighted program. However, yes, I recommend them; and if I upgrade to an even bigger tank, I'll get another one like this.
