Review on KYB SM5592 Insulator by Mondreka Rosenhoover

Revainrating 2 out of 5

I can't believe there is a problem with this part.

I can't believe a part like this could be anything other than 5 stars because of how simple it is, but there are some real issues with this product. I bought this product along with some KYB spacers - also a manufacturer/distributor of insulators and spacers. Should fit right? Sorry, no, it doesn't fit right. First, when you insert an isolator into a rack using the rubber tabs under the isolator to position it, the "edge" of that isolator that will receive the end of the spring will not seat properly in the rack. There is a gap of about 1/2 inch between the "edge" of the insulator and the "edge" of the spacer. So when you push the spring against the edge of the strut, it deforms the isolator to the point where it pops out of the alignment holes in the strut. And generally, the rubber protrusions under the insulator are so small that even the slightest movement of the post or any contact with the insulator when trying to assemble the post will cause it to pop out of position. made rack mounting unnecessarily time-consuming and difficult. The last thing I want to do when I'm fiddling with a compressed spring is need a third hand to keep the various parts from moving when I'm unloading them look at the page. The OEM isolators have MUCH beefier alignment tabs and fit perfectly.

Pros
  • Pleasant to use
Cons
  • There are flaws
