I have a '99 Subaru and it doesn't have a locking system - it wasn't a problem until I had to turn around to face my son. I received this product and it makes his car seat super tight. The product is not screwed, so you need to use the locking system and the top cord to tighten it. The bottom latch alone won't make it tight enough. Also, I love this product and will buy more in the future if I need it. I recommend using it with a seat belt as it has not been crash tested.
