We bought this leash not knowing it was dyed as the product description was unclear. I don't think it's bad for a dyed leather leash in general, but you can tell the color doesn't last long. We sent it back because we were worried the paint would crack and we didn't like the feel. Also, the leash was very stiff and uncomfortable. Since we sent it back shortly after opening it, all I can say is how we treated it in brand new condition. I think it's possible that with more frequent use the leash would have softened over time, but we felt it didn't suit us and opted for an unvarnished leather leash instead.
