I was skeptical - they are great especially for around town/home use

I live in Seattle and travel PNW quite a bit. I have several pairs of microstuds and a yak rail. When I saw them I was very interested but also skeptical. "Looks like it's just a hiking boot sole," but I was curious. They totally work! So I took a close look at them to try and explain how they work. It really looks like the bottom of a good hiking boot but feels grippy. The sticky feel comes from the tread embedded in the outsole lugs. If you run your hand along the bottom of your hiking boot, you won't feel any resistance at all (as good as they are - I've had dozens of top brands over the years). So when you run your hand along the bottom of this "pulling device" you'll feel the resistance and grip. >Certainly the biggest advantage of them is that you can put them on to tow, but you don't have to turn them on and off like you would for Yak Traks or Microstuds. They would be quite appropriate in any standard terrain. > If you are looking for traction equipment for home use, I would recommend them ten times over anything else. I live on a hill where it gets very freezing every winter because of the rain and I've attached a yak truck just to clear out the garbage earlier. We have a slate patio/walkway and traction equipment can cause serious damage. You definitely can't wear them indoors. No damage with this device and I will keep them on my shoes simply because I never have to take them off unlike other traction devices that cause damage. >Feels like super power. They are well done. GENERAL - To be honest - I will still wear crampons or microstuds in the mountains on snow and ice, but they will find a place in the wardrobe for every winter climate. I'll wear them on my shoes all winter long, in town, around the house and when I'm just up in the mountains. Much better than turning other devices on and off. They are well made and will last for many, many years. Thick, well-made rubber - they don't look or feel cheap at all. Thumbs up.
