Review on White SecurityMan SM80 Wireless PIR Motion Sensor for Air-Alarm Systems by Ryan Sandell

Passive sensor works very well. It scans every five seconds and is very responsive. I ordered additional sensors in addition to the air alert kit I ordered. The ability to adjust the mount makes aiming easier after choosing a mounting location. Of the three sensors, there is one that has an undesirable characteristic. I'm not sure if this is unique to this sensor, or if it's because it's in a high traffic area, or if it has bad luck with 9 volt batteries. According to the manual, the PIR scans every five seconds and lights up red when it detects movement. The sensor in question has consumed three 9V batteries since it was installed. The original battery didn't last long and I assumed it was the unnamed battery that came with the device. The second lasted 3 months and according to the manual didn't glow "white" when the battery was low. The red LED just wasn't as bright as usual (that was the 9V I had, but I checked "good" with a battery tester before fitting it, so with two batteries it could just be bad luck). This is the third battery in six months. This is the only problem that has occurred since installation and so far only with one of the three PIR sensors. Air alarms and sensors are less than a year old, but PIR works as advertised.
