In my experience buying cheap tape, no matter how cheap, is a false economy. Difficult to work with to get it off the roll and can stick too well or not well enough. So you spend a lot of time trying to get an inferior product to work. High quality masking tape unwinds easily and smoothly. It holds up well, but not too well, and you get nice clean lines with no color bleeding under the edges. 3M, more specifically Minnesota Mining and Manufacturing, has long been an iconic American company. They make great products; to the point where I bought 3M in name only. But that is no longer the case. I bought several rolls of this masking tape in different widths and it worked just as well as el-cheapo's brands which sell for a lot less. I started at the end and tried to tear off a few yards of tape but it didn't come off the roll cleanly. Start over and try again. Repeat a few more times. I'm wasting my time and the piece of tape I paid for. To be honest, after trying several rolls of different widths, I will most likely throw away the rest. Thats so bad. I'm usually a very brand loyal customer. Congratulations 3M, you gambled away your once great reputation with me. I will not buy this product again nor do I recommend it.
