But I found many other serial bluetooth apps on the app store that worked much better.

Works. I tested it with Arduino and iPhone 6 Plus and was able to connect and send/receive serial data. They suggest you use an app called "LightBlue" to connect, but I've found many other serial bluetooth apps on the app store that worked much better.
