Basically a name. Of course it works just as well as the original. Great if yours is getting old, cracks, cracks, whatever (let's say you screwed up putting on a bigger one) and a really reasonable price point considering the cost of the mic; Shure can easily set it at $30 and people will pay. They make an amazing mic that can last for years and get it made like new with a very cheap OEM part so you can keep one of these for years. Imagine if Apple did this instead of intentionally draining the phone's battery. they would fall apart! Shure's testament is quality and relationships with musicians and recording artists of all stripes. Ever since my first Shure product as a teenager, M44 needles for Technics 1200 (well, two), I've loved the brand. New sales show they expect their items to last. Of course, those who are interested most likely already have a microphone, so I preach to the choir.
