Tannins won't darken the water

Although advertised as hermit crab leaves, they also claim to be good for adding tannins to aquaria. So I put a leaf in my 5 gallon shrimp tank. Usually a large leaf (like in the picture) darkens the water almost immediately. However, the leaves from Sungrow have been here for 2 weeks now and still no change. Also, these sheets are smaller than I expected. The large blade is from another seller and the smaller blade is from Sungrow. I am returning this product. I haven't tried them with hermit crabs yet. Hermit crabs may like them as they have a kind of natural "tobacco smell". So I would try them for hermit crabs but skip the aquarium.
