Review on 🔌 EW-7822ULC: Edimax AC1200 Wi-Fi USB Adapter with Web 2 & MU-MIMO Support for Windows, Mac OS, Linux by David Golden

I received the adapter within 2 days of purchase and it was great. I plugged it into a USB 2 port on my old Dell M6400 laptop and then tried loading the driver from the minidisk that came with the adapter. My DVD player/recorder just slides in, no drawer so I couldn't use the mini CD. Luckily there was a newer version of the driver on the EDIMAX site so I downloaded and installed it, restarted my laptop (required) and wow-lah, it connected to my 802.11ac router with no problems. Speed was only 390 Mbps, which was a bit disappointing as my Linksys external AC1200 adapter was running at 585-867 Mbps depending on proximity to the router. I started moving the adapter to other USB ports, including a USB 3 port, but it still connected at 390Mbps. Eventually I moved it to another USB 2 port and all of a sudden I was getting stable 520-585Mbps (I'm not an electronics engineer but the only difference I saw between the USB ports was that this one is located near the connectors of the internal antennas). In any case, given the EDIMAX adapter's small size, I'm happy with the performance (so far) and don't have to worry about the adapter breaking like I almost did with the outstanding Linksys adapter, which is about 3+ inches. By the way, EDIMAX is faster than the internal Broadcom 802.11ac adapter I installed in my laptop 6 months ago, but if I can install a better internal antenna in my laptop, I hope to increase its speed to 720-867 Mbps at some point . I had it on my previous laptop. Overall, this little adapter is more than I expected, especially for only $20. I would definitely recommend it to others looking to speed up older computers.
