Review on πŸ”§ ASRock B550 PRO4 Motherboard with Support for 3rd Generation AMD AM4 Ryzen and Upcoming AMD Ryzen Processors by Jump Robinson

Problems with 5000 series processors? Consider updating the BIOS.

I kept getting random crashes with Ryzen 5 5600X and BIOS version 1.20 (the first it supports). After doing a clean install of Windows and checking the RAM with memtest and passing 100%, I was ready to blame the motherboard. However, I've decided to update it to the latest version (1.70 at the time of writing) and lo and behold, the crashes have stopped (at least for now). So if you have a Ryzen 5000 series processor and are experiencing random crashes, try updating your BIOS. I also had a similar issue as in another review regarding enabling XMP. After saving, my computer just started with a black screen. I had to jump CMOS and unfortunately there is no jumper on the board. However, you can just tap the pins with a metal screwdriver/clip for about 10 seconds and things will clear up. Overall I think it's a good board and most of my problems were probably on the CPU side since it's so new. I've been using ASRock motherboards for six years now and I think I'll continue to use them in future builds.

Pros
  • Supports 3rd gen AMD AM4 Ryzen processors and future AMD Ryzen processors
Cons
