Review on Moen GXP50C Prep Series PRO 0.5 🗑️ HP Continuous Feed Garbage Disposal with Power Cord by Paul Monzon

This item was a replacement for my 12 year old 1/2 HP Insinkerator. (now called "badger") that literally took up 1/2 2 of the space under my double sink. In the interests of disclosure, I used said insinkerator fairly regularly when it was new and it literally chewed through chicken bones, but it also left said broken chicken bones in your pipes, leaving you with a major clog and a... Plumbing bill left behind. something like that. So said insinkerator basically sat idly under my sink until on Christmas day it started dripping under it. I'd happily avoid recycling altogether, but the sink is hooked up to a switch, and not to explain to the next buyer, I just wanted to put something in it that won't go, doesn't take up space, and works a pinch for just scraping sheet metal etc. As a highlight, Recycling Moen advertises the "universal flange”. because in the end I had to work so hard to free the insinkerator that I broke the seal between the sink and the drain flange. Instead of checking for leaks and doing the job twice, I just completely uninstalled and reinstalled. That was enough, you'll need some plumbing putty and maybe a fine-toothed saw to cut the included drain pipe to size. I didn't need it, but the pipe leading to it had to be lengthened by about 1cm to compensate for the smaller size of the Moen versus the Insinkerator. I had an extra tube and was able to relocate the pl elastic compression collar to avoid re-routing. I can't tell you how much better it looks under the sink than the beast that leaked. In terms of performance, it's not loud when it's running, but there is a loud noise that occurs when you first turn it on, which the Insinkerator didn't have. I'm guessing it's from a different engine. probably permanent magnets. There must be another blade drive connection as Moen does not include the "clamp key" that came with the insinkerator. Once it picks up speed, the motor is just as quiet, maybe quieter than the Insinkerator (or higher, to my ears). Unless you install a rubber boot "filter" which is significantly more restrictive than a typical garbage boot, I suspect it's spinning at a higher RPM or the blades are somehow moving faster because you're coming back down the drain. I didn't like the Moen boot because I put a strainer in the drain above my user and the larger Moen boot gets in the way. When it comes to waste disposal, it does an excellent job of shredding small waste from the table.
