Review on 🎨 DANIEL SMITH Hand Poured Watercolor, Half Pans, Ultimate Mixing Set - 15 Watercolor Half Pans, 15 Empty Half Pans, 2 Plastic Travel Cases (total 32 pieces) 285650009 by Wendy Rodriguez

Revainrating 3 out of 5

Good colors, with terrible DS customer service!

Updated review. REDUCED the rating of this purchase from 4 to 1. While I am happy with the paints themselves the fact is that out of 15 pots only 5 were filled to the top with paint. Others were dented or had large air bubbles in them. Wrote twice to DC, no reply. Also, I paid $62 + tax for my set. Shortly thereafter, the item's price dropped to $51. Shouldn't DS or Revain give me $11 back!? DS support completely ignores customers! Previous review: Fantastic watercolors! This little set became my collection of Schiminke-Horadan, W&N-Cotman and St. Petersburg Sonnet. This set has become my absolute favorite, it combines all the important and favorite features and even more than all my other 3 brands! I only wish I had tried DS sooner. PROS: - bright, beautiful and natural colors - I like that most of the colors are GRANULATED (my other brands are not) - All but one of the colors are translucent or transparent - Mixing new colors is easy and fun, mixed colors are beautiful CONS : - BAD box but they also give you an extra empty box in case you want to add colors - price! DS are expensive. $62 + tax for this tin set in the fancy box is way too much. Out of 15 shells, only 5 were completely filled with paint. I like DS paints, their colors and grain. If you're new to watercolor painting, it might be best to practice with cheaper options like Cotman (great quality), Rembrands or Sonnet (if you prefer very bright and opaque colors).

Pros
  • You can fill the 15 empty halves supplied with other DANIEL SMITH watercolors (don't forget to label the cuvettes) and store them in the plastic travel case!
Cons
  • Big and Chunky
