Should I buy a cellular antenna to use as a base station antenna? Probably no. But if you have an unused one, this is a great way to use it. Completely trivial handling, unscrew the NMO antenna, screw on the coaxial cable, attach the loop to the mast. I used to make them out of cardboard and such, but to be honest it doesn't cost much more, is much stronger and doesn't rust.
