Bought 2 years ago. It has hardly been used as it is much bulkier than my OLD 12ft stanley tape. I wanted something when I needed to measure long distances, and I also wanted something with a stiffer band. Ironically, I also wanted something heavier. Unfortunately, I've only used the Fat Max 6-12 times in the two years I've owned it because it was too big to fit in the outside compartment of my tool box, so it ended up in the bottom bucket of the box. which was less quick and easier to grasp. Even with so little effort, he barely survived his second birthday. The way he failed is somewhat amusing. My 5 year old wanted to know how big a crocodile can get. I told her that in my opinion the largest documented specimens were about 25 feet long and there are even less reliable records of specimens up to 30 feet in size. Of course she wanted to know how tall he really was. It seemed like the perfect opportunity to hit the 25-foot Fat Max. We held it by one end and stretched the band a maximum of 25 feet and I felt the spring scream in pain. When we started to pull the tape back it didn't pull back at all. I tried several times to put it back on carefully. Put some tape in and then pull it back out to see if it works. But no luck. I finally tried just manually pushing the tape back in, but it didn't move 10 feet. I later removed the screws from the device and opened it up, assuming I could somehow "reset" the spring. nope He was physically broken. You can see in the photo. I have attempted to contact Stanley twice regarding this. Once via the Revain app, the second time directly on their website. I took the time to enter all of the above but their website was down and returned an error. So now I've taken the time to ignore the (pretty high if you ask me) cost of the tape itself. Pretty disappointing. I'm just glad I wasn't in the middle of a real project or task when this thing failed. My daughter is very impressed that the crocodiles are so big they break the meter. As a cynical adult, I'm less impressed and feel I made a bad investment in choosing a meter.
