Review on Tiger Insulated Travel 16 Ounce White by Lisa Kruit

Revainrating 4 out of 5

Almost as good as Zojirushi, with a few minor (but crucial) flaws.

I bought two of these mugs when they went on sale to compare with the other (ton) mugs. This guy could be mentioned in the same sentence as the honorable mention of Zojirushi's excellent travel mugs, but there are a few things that suck compared to Zoji's in that regard. Note. There are multiple Zoji designs/form factors so use these FWIW. I prefer the Zoji design with a flip top lid that you can drink straight out of. Single seal seals very well. Easy to clean. 2) Good: The thermal performance of this mug is excellent. I haven't compared it directly to Zoji yet and probably won't because it's very, very good. All other brands I've tried (KleanKanteen, HydroFlask, Takeya, Contigo) pale in comparison. This mug and the Zoji mug show no sign of heat emanating from the bottles, indicating their insulating effectiveness. 3a) Bad: The cup "spills" or "drips" a lot. Don't get me wrong, the print is AMAZING. However, the design of the screw cap leaves a lot to be desired (see second product image). Because the gasket is located fairly low on the lid, the gasket does not prevent liquid from entering the cup threads. This means that liquid can leak out of the threads when drinking or pouring. I rinse the lid and cup before filling (for stale old drinks) so there is ALWAYS water in the lid. I shake it, but even when I close the thermos, water pours out of me. 3b) Liquid will always stick to the cap so be careful when you open it and try tapping it a few times to make it drip back into the bottle. They will fail and inevitably drip onto your clothes. I have a lot of problems with coffee being put on me at work. It's a silly/silly/'small' issue, but if you find yourself dripping coffee on your gray pants at work, it's a badge you should wear all day. 4) Bad: because it is GOOD to drink from this bottle. However, if the liquid level drops by about half when you drink and then quickly lower the bottle, the liquid will fall and often splash back out of the vessel. This is easy to fix: just don't make any sudden movements with the mug. However, it is difficult to take this into account when forming habits, which is why this is the main reason (besides the leak) why I downgraded the rating to four stars. Of course, the opposite opinion is that the cup's large mouth is a huge advantage when trying to fit into ice cubes. Fair enough! 5) Bad: I bought two of these on sale. One of them made a grinding or "whistling" sound when empty. It looks like sand got stuck in the vacuum chamber of the cup. It was annoying, but it didn't break the deal. Sounds like a production or quality control issue. The bottle still holds the heat well, so I didn't bother returning it (so the other thing ended up in a landfill). All in all, a really well-made thermal mug with good properties. I would recommend it without hesitation. Zojirushi mugs are slightly better due to the design flaws of this type of vessel.

Pros
  • There's something to it
Cons
  • Minor issues
