When connected with a USB-C to USB-C cable, it works great for me. If you want to use a USB-A to USB-C cable, make sure it's plugged into a USB-A port that can deliver more power. The USB-A port on my laptop seems borderline, resulting in intermittent disconnects and weird crashes. Moving to a powered USB hub fixed the problem immediately. I suspect that the overcurrent protection on my laptop (Surface Pro 7) USB-A port is too sensitive. I'm using a 4TB SSD, so it can also use more power than smaller SSDs. The case cannot be held responsible for this problem. It just depends on how much power the USB port can reliably deliver. Bottom line: try a powered hub if you're having trouble.
