There are many important reasons to have whistles. We keep a whistle in each of our emergency bug-out bags for earthquakes, fires, etc., in case one of us needs to sound an alarm for help. We have a couple kayaks, and we have a whistle attached to each life vest in case anyone falls in the water and needs help. Hikers and backpackers should carry a whistle in case they get off the trail and lost. These whistles are extremely loud and high-pitched, so I think they can be heard at a very long distance. They are well-made and compact in size. I like the mouth guard that makes it easy to hold the whistle in your mouth/teeth if your hands are busy (like treading water).
