Heats up fast, gets really hot

This 25 watt Weller recording kit is a lot bigger than the one I had as a kid. It heats up quickly and takes time to cool down completely. The kit was difficult to open as for transport two sides are covered with a plastic pin which had to be picked to open. The tip range ends with heating, and the instructions advise buying tongs with thin jaws to avoid burning yourself. It comes with a cheap little "stand" to keep the heat in the air about an inch when it's lying down, and they also advise you to put it on something like ceramic tile for safety. There are tips for everything (including soldering!) Like anything, it takes time and practice, but you can always start firing when you're ready. The kit includes several printed templates for practice. That's good, but of course you also need inexpensive wood. The burner itself makes a solid impression. There's also a mysterious X-acto knife blade, but it doesn't attach to the tool. Overall not bad for $18. I like that it comes with a simple plastic case.
