Review on DBSF115 2 Inch Diamond Sharpening Stone by Smiths by Sam Doucette

Revainrating 5 out of 5

Great all purpose sharpener.

I am very happy with this product. Smith diamond sharpeners are well built and comparable in quality to more expensive diamond sharpeners such as DMT. I have read reviews from other Revain reviewers who have complained that their Smith diamond stones are not flat. I have never experienced this with any of my Smith products. In my experience they were all of the highest quality. This stone arrived perfectly flat. It's also heavier than expected. Some of these diamond benches have a hard plastic base with a diamond surface glued on top. The yellow body of this stone appears to be actually made of stone. I'm not sure about the material but it's very strong so I'm sure this stone will never warp. The stone is set in a black plastic base with rubber feet to prevent slipping, but is easily removed from the base. In terms of grit, the coarse 325 grit is ideal for general sharpening. It's aggressive enough to quickly convert a very dull edge, yet is capable of razor-sharp any knife. The grit appears very coarse at first, maybe too coarse, but the surface just needs to be rubbed in. After a few passes, the grain will begin to smooth out. This sharpener is a great find and a necessary item in my opinion. I expect mine to last for years.

Pros
  • For the diamond stone that will hold your edge choose ROUGH (Yellow - 325 grit)
Cons
  • small things
