The packaging was flimsy with no instructions/parts list. A small gasket dangled in the box to connect the inlet parts together. So look for that if they don't stick together. The filter cartridge itself is garbage; replace it with loose filter material to improve the surface area for bacteria. I cut the depth filter sponge to fit and adjusted it so that the entire filter stays wet but the water does not run out of the overflow so tightly. The stabilization wheel at the bottom of the filter does not evenly support the weight of the filter during use. I used a neoprene mat to level the tank and it kept the unit from vibrating and tipping. All of these tiny HOB filters are perfect for my use case (small nano aquariums) with a few simple mods. This one is a little underpowered at the advertised 40gph so I put it in a 5 gallon tank with a nano powerhead wheel filter/sponge. The current is gentle enough for my betta and a few buddies.
