Looking again at the situation, I accepted the gamma cap ring, put it on the bucket, turned the bucket upside down and put my 180 pounds on the bucket. regardless of my vertical status. After three minutes of vigorous jumping, the edge of the lid moved! About an eighth of an inch per small piece. But I had hope! After another 10 minutes or so of bouncing, the lid finally snapped open completely and I was able to unscrew the gamma cap and the bucket looks amazing, perfectly sealed. Sturdy bucket? I would say so.
