This is a great starter kit and is relatively inexpensive. I've had a rooster and a snail in my aquarium for a few months now (but the snail was a recent addition). The filter works well, it's a bit bulky, but DO NOT USE THE CARTRIDGES TO REPLACE THE FILTER! You will waste money. and throw away the good bacteria every time you change it! I used Fluval Edge plus Biomax sponge instead. ?dchild=1&keywords=fluval+biomax+and+sponge&qid=1621280636&sr=8-1 This way the sponge filters out dirt and Biomax creates a space for beneficial bacteria to grow! Filter and then Biomax at the top. Flush/press both in OLD WATER TANK during weekly or monthly water changes. You don't need to replace unless the sponge or Biomax falls apart. REST OF THE OVERVIEW: - The light is not super bright so if you want to grow plants I would only grow plants in low light. The lid fits well, it's a bit flimsy, but you just have to make sure the cords aren't under the lid and preventing it from closing. I like that there is a place in the lid for the output of cables, for example from a heater. Overall a great modified filter kit!
