This card, as it is, is a stroke of luck. If you really can't avoid installing a graphics card in the x1 slot, this is the right choice. However, I had a few problems with it. On the computer I actually bought for use, this was a problem in one of the two x1 slots on the board. It worked fine in one of the longer slots, but only x1 was noticeably slower than an otherwise identical x4 card. I wasn't running any games, just VMWare Workstation with fullscreen VMs on the secondary monitor. The bottom line is that even low-end GPUs can benefit from a few extra PCIe lanes. This card is the right choice if you really only have a x1 slot, but if you have a few more lanes left (at least one Geforce 710 card with an x8 slot I can think of), you're even better off for the general desktop use. x4 seems to be the best choice for GPUs of this caliber.
