does the job. You may need additional hardware

Purchased for PCIE x1 and VGA port. Use it on a cheap Ryzen/FreeBSD system to access the BIOS and console. The included low-profile brackets can only be used side-by-side due to the length of the VGA ribbon cable. If you have to jump over an expansion slot like I did, you'll need a different VGA mount. one that places the VGA connector on the opposite end of the expansion slot. I used an MSI GT 710 bar lying around. Also remember that the DVI connector is DVI-D, not DVI-I. I have a number of…

It fills a niche. But avoid it if you can.

This card, as it is, is a stroke of luck. If you really can't avoid installing a graphics card in the x1 slot, this is the right choice. However, I had a few problems with it. On the computer I actually bought for use, this was a problem in one of the two x1 slots on the board. It worked fine in one of the longer slots, but only x1 was noticeably slower than an otherwise identical x4 card. I wasn't running any games, just VMWare Workstation with fullscreen VMs on the secondary monitor. The…

Pros
  • The best in its niche
Cons
  • There are problems

I don't use this card for gaming, but it's not intended for gaming either. Sure, it can play some games on low or basic hardware-accelerated web games, but that's about it. This does not mean that the card does not have its advantages. It's absolutely true. I wanted to upgrade the integrated video on a 6 year old system that mainly handles media functions. Integrated video can only hardware accelerate x264 video streams, but only up to 720p and absolutely no 60fps video, regardless of SD or HD.

Pros
  • Easy to use
Cons
  • High price

Quiet server solution

I'm concerned about the noise level of my computers, maybe because I have three computers in my bedroom that run 24/7. I never shut down my systems except for maintenance. When I decided to add a graphics card to my Xeon server, I didn't want to make any noise. I didn't need anything really powerful since it was a server and I'd just live with the onboard GPU, but these days there are some games that insist your graphics card must meet certain video requirements just to run a game server…

If you really need a PCIe-1 card (upgrade)

It's not for everyone and there are better cards out there but it worked for what I needed. I had an ESC motherboard with j1800 processor built in and wanted to try a graphics card for a very cheap build. The board only has one PCIe1 slot so I couldn't buy a regular graphics card and that was the only option. I read a lot of bad reviews about a cheap card being a waste of money but I took a chance. Well it worked, performance increased by 30% in tests. I've played a few Steam games on it and…

Perfect Graphics Upgrade for Embedded APU

I upgraded my Ivy Bridge Celeron G APU GPU with this card. I don't play games so it didn't matter, but I watched a lot of videos and noticed a lot of frame drops on 1080p footage with the onboard graphics. This particular PC is running Ubuntu 14.04 displayed on a new Samsung LCD TV via HDMI. This Zotac card fits in a single PCIe x16 slot, even with a passive heatsink. The installation process was easy and less complicated than I thought since my default BIOS uses any PCIe card as the primary…

works great if you don't have a full size 16X PCIe slot.

I was trying to set up an old UBUNTU Linux PC as a home theater PC. There was no room in the PC for a larger graphics card, which required a full-size PCIe slot. While this card won't satisfy the gamer who wants a really fast GPU, I think it's great for 1080i HD video. The old PC I wanted to use had a built in VGA port on the motherboard, but it was too slow to watch HD videos. I don't know if the GPU performance is good enough for Ultra 4K video, but it's great for 1080i. It has a well-sized…

Set your expectations right and you will be satisfied

The last time my father visited, he brought a massive ATX tower desktop computer. Knowing the requirements (and looking inward at how empty the case was), it became clear that this was too big a case and not enough PCs. We bought a scrapped Dell Optiplex 755 SFF PC, then I cleaned it up and added more RAM and a hybrid hard drive. One problem remained: the Core 2 Duo's internal graphics were ridiculously terrible and struggled to render 1080p. It was obvious that he needed a video card, almost…
